Im 2011, as a personal design challenge I wanted to make an everyday object that I would be able to fabricate myself. I decided to design a compact, metal pen that I could carry with me every day. After multiple iterations on the design and having machined a bunch of these pens by hand, I decided to manufacture a run of these pens locally in Massachusetts and crowdfunding the process on Kickstarter (2012). The Kickstarter campaign was successful and I sold over 2000 pens. I reinvested the money from the campaign to scale to 7 different materials and finishes, allowing me to provide a diverse set of aesthetics and weights. The project lives on as Schon DSGN, and I am continually developing new models and finishes. The pens can be found online or in a number of retailers all over the world.
